The Cherokee Indians were not treated well. In fact they were not allowed to live where they wanted even though they lived there first. The United States government forced them out. Andrew Jackson was president. (I think my family would never support that.)
the Cherokee were made to suffer by walking many miles in the dirt. Many died-not from heat but from starvation.
The Cherokee were treated so poorly that they felt persecuted. This was evil as was slavery and the Holocaust.
The slaves were killed by white men. The Jews were killed by Hitler. The Cherokee were killed by the US government. All killed were made to suffer first. I hope we find this terrible. Let it never happen again!
CONVERSATION AFTERWORD
Teacher: How do you and I stop this stuff from happening?
Cindi: We are good in our own lives; we get good leaders; we save those people if we can.
T: What kind of things build up to get people to do such awful things? (looking for progression)
C: It starts with pride. People say mean things about others. Then they get power. Then they hurt them.
T: Now looking at your list, what do we do individually to stop the cycle?
C: talk well of others. Do not spread lies. Then do not hate them. Then have good morals.
T: What do you want to learn now?
C: I want to learn the history of normal humans.
T: Like human development- typical progression?
C: yes
(Teacher than read chapter 5 and asked for thoughts in the middle to check to see how was enjoying it)
C: I think this is interesting.
(After reading)
T: How did you like it?
C: I think I understand myself better.
SUMMARY (Cindi wrote this summary without any review or questions besides the ones listed. Pretty impressive- wish my brain worked that well.- T. If you can't make it through chapter 5 of the book- read this- it is pretty thorough.)
The first stage of development is the sensory motor thought stage. In this thought stage one learns about his or her external and internal environment through senses like hearing and seeing. In autism the person has no control of this and may decide only to touch something and not look at it. This makes the person have a hard time understanding the environment.
The next stage of development is the pre-operational thought stage. In this stage one learns to think about imitating, social play and social skills. Mirror neurons help with that. In Autism they work differently. Sometimes one can imitate and sometimes they can't. In the end it makes us function differently.
The next stage is concrete operational thought stage. In this stage one learns to think about classification. They think about abstract things. They have independent thought. I think they need education to get here. They are the ones who have skills you find on IQ test. They are conservation, classification, and combitoral skills.
The next stage is formal operational thought stage. In this stage one thinks about their life and makes decisions.
In the end there are many reasons to understand differently. This is the end.
